Purple Rice of Meghalaya- Jashalia- Yung

Sticky rice is a popular rice in North East part of India. This Purple sticky rice which is locally called as "Jashalia- Yung" is a traditional heirloom paddy cultivated in the hilly terrains of Meghalaya by Kasi and Garo tribes. The purple colour makes this rice with its sticky nature makes this rice unique from other traditional rice varieties. This semi-polished rice is cooked and eat with pork and beef by local khasi, garo and Jainthiya communities.
